One of the reasons I enjoy living in Angeles is the Halla Spa. After a 26-year military career with over 1600 parachute jumps and lots of other high impact type activities, I retired with several service connected injuries that included a broken neck, multiple damaged thoracic and lumbar spinal disks, injured ankles/knees, etc. etc. Retirees like myself are always looking for ways to mitigate our aches and pains without drugs or surgery. A good massage does help me out; so, I am always looking for the best location to obtain one. When I heard about the Halla in December 2003, I drove over and gave it a try. The Halla is a Korean owned and run facility. It is attached to the Halla Hotel which is used by my visitors from Korea. While the majority of the spa's customers are Korea, it is not uncommon to find westerner's using it. The Halla is a high quality spa that rivals what I would expect to find in the first world nations of the world. It was a pleasant surprise to find this spa in Angeles City.
The Halla offers a relaxing therapeutic massage along with a sauna and/or hot and cold water pools. The spa is intended for use by both men and women clients and the facility was designed with separate areas used solely by men or women. My first visit left me impressed about the high quality construction, extreme cleanliness, the training and skill of masseuse¡¯s, and a long one-hour massage that leaves me feeling refreshed and thoroughly relaxed. In my case, the massage also reduces chronic pain I tolerate, decreases my need for prescription medications, and allows me to sleep well. Since I discovered this spa in December 2003, I have been a frequent visitor who has averaged two or three sauna¡¯s and/or massage¡¯s each week. The spa is run by the Halla Hotel and is a Korean owned and managed operation. It¡¯s primary clients are Koreans visiting Angeles on business or to play golf. Westerner¡¯s using the spa are becoming more common; and, I have always felt genuinely welcomed by both the Halla staff and it¡¯s Korean guests.
Location and Hours of Operation
First the
location of the Halla Spa is one of the reasons most of the Anglo visitors are
unaware of it. It is located outside of what is generally classified as the
tourist area of Angeles City. However, it is easily accessible by traveling from
the tourist area, down Don Juico Avenue (e.g. the Clark perimeter road) until
you get to the Clark Friendship Gate. Once there, take a left down Friendship
Road and about 300 meters later on the right side you will see the Halla Hotel.
Take a right on the road just before the hotel and you will see the spa on the
left. If you are driving, there is a guarded parking area provided for spa
customers. The spa opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 2 a.m. It is open seven
days a week. Their phone number is 893-2232. If taking a trike to the spa, tell
the driver to take you to the Halla Hotel. The spa is located in an annex to the
hotel.

When you enter the spa, you will find a reception area and employees who will assist you by providing information about the types of services available and their costs. The receptionists speak excellent English.
I go to the Halla for the sauna and
theraputic massage. It takes me about two and
one-half hours to get everything done. For a detailed explanation of what takes
that long:
