Documents from the 1730th Pararescue Squadron - From 1987 thru 1991, Pararescuemen were for the first time in their history formed into their own squadron, independent of the air rescue flying squadrons. While the squadron was very successful, the concept of a pararescue squadron was not real popular with HQ ARS or the flying squadrons that lost their PJs. In 1991, HQ ARS ordered the 1730th deactivated and the PJs returned to the flying squadrons. The alleged reason was budget cuts.
