Site Mission: Provide Pararescue and Air Rescue History

Distinguished Flying Cross Recipient

Attention to orders. Citation to accompany the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Master Sergeant Edward M. Willis

Master Sergeant Edward M. Willis distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an HH-53C Pararescue Technician in Southeast Asia on 18 February 1970.  On that date, Sergeant Willis and his fellow crewmembers flew their rescue helicopter deep into hostile territory to rescue a downed American Airman.  Once driven off by ground fire, they returned to successfully rescue the airman after another helicopter had been critically damaged in a previous attempt.  The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Willis reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
