Distinguished Flying Cross Recipient

Attention to orders. Citation to accompany the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross, First Oak Leaf Cluster, to Sergeant Johnny L. Riddick

Sergeant Johnny L. Riddick distinguished himself by heroism while participating in aerial flight as an HH-53 Pararescue Specialist in Southeast Asia on 1March 1970. On that date, Sergeant Riddick flew an extremely hazardous mission to rescue a downed American airman deep in hostile territory. Although his helicopter was continually subjected to intense hostile ground fire, Sergeant Riddick maintained his position providing accurate suppressive fire until the rescue was successfully completed. Through his personal bravery and energetic application of his knowledge and skill, he significantly aided in saving the downed airman from certain capture by hostile forces.  The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Riddick reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
