Technical Sergeant Richard H. Pambrun distinguished himself
by heroism while participating in aerial flight as an
HH-53C Pararescue Technician in South East Asia on 22 April
1970. On that date, Sergeant Pambrun and his fellow
crewmembers rescued a downed American airman from deep
within heavily fortified hostile territory. Although exposed
to intense and accurate hostile ground fire, which had
previously driven his crew from their objective, Sergeant
Pambrun maintained his vulnerable position providing
suppressive fire against numerous gun positions until the
second rescue attempt was successfully completed and his
helicopter was safely out of danger. The outstanding heroism
and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Pambrun
reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air
Force.
