Site Mission: Provide Pararescue and Air Rescue History

Distinguished Flying Cross Recipient

Attention to orders. Citation to accompany the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Sergeant James D. Locker

Sergeant James D. Locker distinguished himself by heroism while participating in aerial flight as an HH-3E Rescue Specialist on 25 December 1967.  On that date, Sergeant Locker was scrambled for the attempted rescue of two pilots whose plane had been shot down by hostile ground fire.  After another aircraft had been hit and its pilot seriously wounded, Sergeant Locker entered the area of intense hostile fire in order to locate the survivors.  Sergeant Locker manned an M-60 machine gun until the pick up was accomplished and then administered medical aid to the injured survivors.  The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Locker reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
