Staff
Sergeant Charles Jenkins distinguished himself by
extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial
flight as an HH-43-F Pararescue Specialist near Pleiku Air
Base, Republic of Vietnam on 29 October 1966. On that date,
Sergeant Jenkins was lowered by hoist into a known hostile
area to effect the recovery of two pilots whose aircraft had
been shot down the night before. The two pilots were
recovered, but the helicopter had to leave due to heavy
ground fire in the area of the pick-up site where Sergeant
Jenkins remained for the most part of a day assisting other
Army wounded and returning fire when possible. The
professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty
displayed by Sergeant Jenkins reflect great credit upon
himself and the United States Air Force.
