Site Mission: Provide Pararescue and Air Rescue History

Distinguished Flying Cross Recipient

Attention to orders. Citation to accompany the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross, first oak leaf cluster, to Staff Sergeant Aaron D. Farrior

Staff Sergeant Aaron D. Farrior distinguished himself by heroism while participating in aerial flight as a pararescueman on a rescue helicopter over hostile territory on 1 May 1966.  On that date, Sergeant Farrior made three desperate attempts to rescue an American pilot who was forced to bail out of his disabled aircraft over hostile territory.  On each attempted rescue, Sergeant Farrior’s aircraft was raked by hostile fire.  Because of the battle damage to his rescue helicopter, Sergeant Farrior was forced to withdraw from the area.  The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Farrior reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
