Site Mission: Provide Pararescue and Air Rescue History

Distinguished Flying Cross Recipient

Attention to orders. Citation to accompany the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross (Fifth Oak Leaf Cluster) to Sergeant Terry E. Caffery

Airman First Class Terry E. Caffery distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an HH-53  Pararescue Air Rescue Specialist in Southeast Asia on 8 August 1969. On that date, Airman Caffery participated in the successful rescue of two American airmen who had been forced to bail out over hostile territory. While his fellow pararescueman recovered one of the survivors who had been injured, Airman Caffery made medical preparations inside the helicopter which greatly expedited treatment of the survivor and made possible the rendering of immediate aid. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Airman Caffery reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
