Airman's or Soldier's Medal Recipients

Attention to orders. Citation to accompany the award of the Airman's Medal to
Technical Sergeant Timothy V. Young

Technical Sergeant Timothy V. Young distinguished himself by heroism involving voluntary risk of life near New Orleans, Louisiana, on 26 May 1987.  On that date, Sergeant Young directed the emergency evacuation of passengers from the crash of Continental Airlines flight 2962.  His immediate efforts following the crash helped to manage the panicked passengers trapped inside the wreckage.  Despite his own injuries and the risk of fire, Sergeant Young cleared the blocked exit and remained inside the fuel-laden fuselage to administer life saving medical treatment to the trapped and seriously injured passengers and crew.  By his courageous action and humanitarian regard for his fellowman, Sergeant Young has reflected great credit upon himself, the Air National Guard, and the United States Air Force.
