Airman's or Soldier's Medal Recipients

Attention to orders. Citation to accompany the award of the Airman's Medal to Airman First Class John F. Tobey

Airman First Class John F. Tobey distinguished himself by heroism involving voluntary risk of life near DaNang Air Base, Republic of Vietnam on 25 March 1967.  On that date, Airman Tobey volunteered to be lowered into a mine field to render aid and assistance to a Marine who had stepped on an abandoned mine.  Upon reaching the victim, he administered extensive medical aid and prepared the patient in a stokes litter to be hoisted aboard the rescue aircraft.  The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Airman Tobey reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
