Attention to orders. Citation to Accompany the Award of the Airman's Medal to Steven R. Miller |
|
Senior Airman Steven R. Miller distinguished himself by heroism involving voluntary risk of life at Sonore Pass, California, on 19 June 1987. On that date, while enroute to Utah for a routine training exercise, the HH-3E helicopter "Jolly 725" crashed and rolled onto its side. Airman Miller acted quickly to extinguish an engine fire that threatened the lives of the other crewmembers. He then freed and evacuated an injured passenger to safety having to carry him over two hundred feet up hill. As a Pararescueman, Airman Miller was able to provide medical treatment to the injured, following which, he secured the area and sought local assistance. His quick actions and selflessness saved the lives of his fellow crewmembers. By his courageous action and humanitarian regard for his fellowman, Airman Miller has reflected great credit upon himself, the Air National Guard, and the United States Air Force.
