Master
Sergeant Eugene V. Ingram distinguished himself by heroism
involving voluntary risk of life at Mt. St. Helens,
Washington on 25 June 1966. On that date, Sergeant Ingram
parachuted under extremely hazardous conditions to the crash
site of a light civilian aircraft. Although located on a
dangerous incline at the 6,000-foot level, Sergeant Ingram
unhesitatingly climbed to the aid of the two surviving
passengers. With complete disregard for his own safety and
despite constant peril from falling rock, Sergeant Ingram
aided in the removal of the survivors, administered first
aid, and helped remove them down the mountainside where they
were airlifted to safety. His actions were directly
responsible for preservation of their lives. The exemplary
courage, heroism, and outstanding professional ability
displayed by Sergeant Ingram reflect great credit upon
himself and the United States Air Force.
