  Jason C. Kutscher

The Jolly 04 crew were TDY to Korea to provide search and rescue alert coverage for USAF fighter aircraft assigned to bases in the Republic of Korea. The flight profile on the night of the accident was a training night vision goggle (NVG) flight. Jolly 04 flew into high tension wires and subsequently crashed. It is believed that all of the crew members died on impact. South Korean military were quickly on the scene and took an interview from a Korean truck driver who heard the crash and alerted authorities.

Jason Kutscher was not scheduled to fly on the aircraft that crashed. The Pararescueman who was scheduled to fly needed some time off for a personal matter and asked Jason to take the flight for him. Jason enjoyed the training that flying provided and gladly took the fateful flight.

Jason grew up on Long Island, New York and lived near the 102nd Air Rescue Squadron. He frequently saw that units aircraft flying nearby and learned about Pararescue. He was the recipient of both the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Achievement Medal. You may read about his achievements leading to these decorations by clicking the blue hyperlinks.
