The most definitive history of Air Rescue in Vietnam ever written. Its 469 pages cover the Vietnam War from the “Tonkin Gulf Resolution” until the “Tet Offensive.”  This work took two and one half years of exhaustive research. All of the stories come from primary source material collected from the Air  Force Historical Research Agency, the USAF Museum and the Air Rescuemen who flew combat rescue missions in America’s longest war. Heavily illustrated the book includes 24 maps, over 170 pictures and many illustrations. The books three appendixes include:

·        A list of Air Rescuemen killed in action and identification of the date, unit assigned, aircraft flown, crew position, where KIA and their call sign.

·        A list of over 500 air rescue missions flown; the names on the men who flew them and who they rescued; and date of the mission, location of the SAR, type rescue aircraft, survivors name and the type of aircraft the survivor was shot down in.

·        A list of all known PJs that served in the Vietnam War

The photographs include aircraft, survival gear, weapons, combat equipment and the heroic rescuemen who flew these legendary combat rescue missions. The book explains the inception of air refueling, Fulton recovery, the Pacific jungle Survival School, how and when PJs got their famed “maroon beret,”  history of the name “Jolly Green Giant,” and   MUCH, MUCH more,  hard to find,  Vietnam Air Rescue history. This is a serious historical text that is heavily cited. The stories cover most of the significant missions flown, most of the missions where a Rescueman was killed in action, all missions when a rescue aircraft was shot down, and most missions where something unusual occurred. Only 2000 copies are being printed in this limited edition (ISBN 0-9708671-0-7). Each book is hand numbered in sequence and initialed by the author.

This book is not available in bookstores. It can only be purchased from the author, Robert LaPointe. He is a two tour, heavily decorated, Vietnam veteran who saved over 100 lives and accumulated over 400 combat hours in the HH-53 Super Jolly Green Giant.
